The People’s Council of Quang Ninh Province has passed a resolution to increase the entrance fees scales in Halong Bay starting from 1st January 2014.
This is the second time Quang Ninh province increases Halong Bay sightseeing ticket fees. Following this, the daytime visiting fee will increase up to VND150,000 (US$7) per person instead of the current fees at VND80,000 – VND130,000 ($4-6). The entrance fees at each destination on the bay, which are invested by the State, will be from VND30,000 to VND50,000 ($1.5-2.5). The overnight fees will be VND200,000, VND350,000 and VND400,000 ($10, $17, $20) for one, two and three nights, respectively. The entrance fees to Bai Tu Long Bay is at the maximum fee of VND100,000 per person.
With the new entrance fees, the province said it would earn up to VND600 billion ($30 million) in 2014. The entire amount will be additional funding to partially offset the investment and renovation, conservation, promoting the value of the world’s natural heritage Ha Long Bay.
The increasing of entrance fee may seriously affect business of both Halong cruise companies and travel agents. “The current fees of counter and departure service, garbage collection, mooring and water use are already burdens for all overnight cruise operators in Halong bay. If increasing entrance fees is not accompanied with the improvement of the services, the number of tourists travelling to Halong bay may fall” said the CEO of Bhaya Cruises, Mr. Tran Thanh Nam.
